Birthday Fun With Lau You Nan At Downtown East

A day blessed with superbly good weather ideal for a barbeque get-together. A blessed day reserved for kind-hearted and loving spirits. This was a day set aside for Lau You Nan to celebrate his 27th birthday on February 15, 2009.

Born in the year of the dog, it is no wonder that this is one very friendly and sociable colleague who never shies away from bringing laughter and fun to the environment around him. Gifted with natural charisma and charm, in his own down to earth way, it paves the way for friends and colleagues to take to him like fish to water.

So, on this fun-filled day, we see them all coming together to celebrate, not so much the birthday You Nan was celebrating, but more as a get together among friends. The reason for the gathering was immaterial and secondary. You Nan was reason enough for all to mingle on this clear and sunny day.

Of course there were other good reasons like a game of mahjong amid the sumptuous BBQ chicken, aluminum foiled corn, fried bee hoon, jellies and fruits. We must not forget that we do have some heavyweight chefs among us. Mommy like Suryani and regular party-bird like Zubaidah can knock you off with a dish or two, hands down.

You Nan would like to thank all for coming together to celebrate his birthday with him. He saw it as an opportunity for us to have some healthy fun outside of our daily work routine and he is hoping that more of such gatherings could be organized from time to time.

He believes that human beings are social creatures that need to connect with each other and this connection does not have to have a reason. Getting together to have fun, to chit chat and get to know each other is a natural human trait and he wants to encourage this.

Sunday was an unforgettable day for him and he hoped it is just as unforgettable for those privileged enough to share the day with him. He wants to specially thank those who had to travel from far all the way to Pasir Ris. He is touched by such effort and show of love.

He would like to set aside special thanks to Suryani for the invaluable and immense help she took upon herself to see to it that everything was running along smoothly on this wonderful day. The food she cooked, the time and effort she took to help barbeque the food, roping her children in to help out, the washing up - all these even though she is with child.

Kudos to you Sue, your loving kindness knows no bounds and sees no equal.

Finally, You Nan would also like to wish Juliana a "Very Belated Happy Birthday". He reveals that Juliana's birthday fell on February 16.

You Nan: " Thank you everyone for making it such an unforgetable day".

  3. Dear Philip,

It is really enjoyable to know activities outside HIS and most importantly, everyone enjoyed it. Hope that the bond in HIS family will grow stronger as it is like a second family (hmmm we spend more time in office than home). Cheers

  4. Dear Shannon,

You're absolutely right that we spend a lot of time in the office and I think it is good to build camaraderie within the department to diffuse some of the stress we face each day.

We have a team of very sporting colleagues who will support initiatives like get-togethers, just to have fun and let their hair down.

I don't see too many comments here but I get direct feedback that such outings are enjoyable and it helps build stronger bonds of one big happy HIS family.
