Hand Hygiene

Hand Washing

This is official news.

We have in our department, three certified Hand Hygiene Assessors. They are, Ritta, Win Win and si moir.

Some of you may have seen us in the pantry yesterday afternoon being taught by MOH-certified Assessor and Case Manager, Phoon Long Yoke.

It is now our turn to impart the knowledge we learnt to each of you in our fight against the SuperBug, MRSA.

Sad but true that the modern world is seeing all sorts of viruses that have mutated so rapidly that modern medicine are finding it hard to keep up with the rate of mutation.

It is back-to-basics time and hand washing is as basic as it can get. This is our best known defense against bacteria and it has become imminently necessary that everyone in the healthcare industry is fully equiped with the basic knowledge of the proper hand-washing technique to reduce and prevent the cause of infection at its source.
The three HIS Assessors will be conducting hand-washing clinics the next two weeks and everyone is to participate. It is compulsory. To help you prepare for these sessions, here is a video link prepared by TTSH's Infection Control Unit. The video was a collaboration between Ngee Ann Polytechnic and TTSH.

To those of you who may still have doubts on the need to wash hands regularly; do you know that your computer keyboard has more germs than a whole toilet bowl?

Now think again, is hand-washing as important as it is being made out to be?
